Back in 2017, hitching my wagon to Verner Vogel’s “All Things Distributed” star, I maintained a blog named “All Things Collocated”. In that blog I have advocated the collocation of storage and compute, giving motivations and demonstrating various possible use cases.
In recent years – while I was busy co-founding a startup in a totally different realm – things surely must have changed (for one thing, the original blog’s hosting service went off-line). Having some time while looking for my next challenge I thought I would put some of the content back on-line and even try to revisit some of the motivations.
The original blog’s content refers to an open source project I was leading called Storlets. The Storlets project is part of Openstack. The project implements storage and compute collocation by adding a way to run user functions inside the object store in a serverless manner.
This is the illustration that I chose for my past blog. I will use it in the following ‘revived’ posts.
